By: Martin Sejas There are so many aspects of Construction Environmental Impacts to consider with any building works, but these are the most important ones. We often only think about the obvious things when we consider the environment, but we should look further than our immediate locale. In fact the government is looking into ways to reduce Construction Environmental Impacts, and are looking to reduce the damage building does in our country. Pollution in terms of Construction Environmental Impacts used to be the only consideration taken into account by the powers that be. The construction industry accounts for anything up to 7 per cent of the CO2 emissions created globally. That’s quite a fair bit of pollution by any standards. Anyone will see that the Construction Environmental Impacts of CO2 is sizable. Expect many changes to legislation in this...

THE EFFECTS OF AN OIL SPILL

Posted by on Apr 23, 2014 in ENVIRONMENT | 0 comments

By: Nigel Mansen The recent oil spill in the Gulf of Mexico is creeping towards the ignominy of being the most devastating environmental catastrophe of its kind. Despite innumerable remedial efforts, thousands of barrels of oil are being spewed into the ocean each day posing a very real economic, marine and environmental risk. Experts predict that the effect of this latest ecological disaster will be more pronounced than the 1989, Exxon Valdez Spill. With 5000 barrels of oil finding its way into the waters of the Gulf, we are only a few days away from the point at which the catastrophe will far supersede the Exxon spill. However, experts of the opinion that BP has significantly understated the figure, which is likely at 25,000 to 80,000 barrels per day, at which rate the Gulf spill is already well beyond...

By: Dimitris Bessios Water pollution is a major concern both globally and locally, but there is something you can do to avoid falling victim to the effects of pollution in your water sources. Since pollution is defined as anything that makes our water dirty or unclean, the possible sources of pollution are limitless. Major pollution comes from such things as oil spills and chemicals that make their way into the ocean via rivers and streams. Natural solids pollute the water as well. When soil erodes away from a waterway and into the water, it affects the bio-chemical structure of the water and thus pollutes it. Other things like grass clippings that make their way into the water remove some of the oxygen which kills some of the bottom feeders. This in turn disrupts the food chain. Storm drains, septic...

SOLAR ELECTRICITY SYSTEM

Posted by on Apr 22, 2014 in ENVIRONMENT | 0 comments

By: James D Gallagher Over the last 100 years, electricity has provided the means of opportunity for the greatest developments and improvements known to mankind. New technologies and inventions are constantly being developed with a dependence upon electricity. As the growth of the world’s economy increases so too does the exponential demand for electricity. Today, electricity has become a commodity we can’t live without. In the past, fossil fuels like coal and oil have provided us with the necessary resources to produce our own electricity with the use of generators in power plants. Since the recognition that these fossil fuels were not limitless and possibly dangerous to both the environment and the inhabitants of Earth, an increased demand for new research has led to the development of safer and cleaner energy sources. One such energy source is solar power....
