ONE DEAD; THREE INJURED IN TWO EXPLOSIONS AT TOR
One person has been reported dead in an explosion disaster that happened around the Tema Oil Refinery, Tuesday.
The deceased who is yet to be identified was running away when an electric pole reportedly fell on him, Joy News’ Joseph Opoku Gakpo reported.
Godwin Damali, a fire personnel also confirmed the death.
Three other fire officials have been injured as a result of the explosion. The fire men were said to be repairing the leaked pipeline when the explosion occured.
A fresh pipeline at the Tema Oil Refinery exploded, in what appears to be a second disaster around the Cocoa Processing Factory in Tema.
The first pipeline was reported to have exploded around 3:00 pm which led to an inferno that ravaged some buildings around the area.
Just when fire and police personnel arrived to keep the explosion under control, another pipeline exploded around 4:00 pm, Joy News’ Joseph Opoku Gakpo reported.
Fire men, bystanders had to run helter skelter to protect their dear lives.
The cause of the explosions have been linked to some leakages on the pipeline. Officials of TOR were on their way to check the leakages when the explosion occurred.
The pipelines were said to be linking the Tema Harbour to the Tema Oil Refinery.
Electricity supply to the area has been disconnected as fire men work tirelessly to bring the situation under control.
Three buildings have been ravaged by the fire that came after the explosion, Opoku reported.
There are fears the situation may degenerate. The whole area has been engulfed by a thick dark plume making its way into the sky.
The area has been barricaded with some amount of chaos as police try to maintain order and direct traffic.
Some residents told Gakpo the leakages had started some three days ago.
They claim some of the residents on few occasions even went to siphon the fuel from the leakages.
But officials at TOR have dismissed claims the leakage began three days ago.
